At the Challenging Behaviour Foundation we often hear from parents concerned about the future security of their sons and daughters.
Whether they are leaving children's services to move to adult services, or whether they are already in an adult placement but it is no longer suitable for them or is on the verge of breaking down, often there doesn't seem to be any service locally that can meet their needs. The default position is to find a residential home somewhere willing to take the individual, and frequently families find themselves offered out-of-area placements, sometimes hundreds of miles away.
The processes for developing specialist local individualised services must be made easier. We need to get together - families and professionals working as partners, and support each other to make things happen. Information is the key, and these pages have been put together to help families as they plan for the future.
